Anatolyi Protodyakonov champion!

Machiel Weistra (NL) had a nice agressive position against Anatolyi. He decided after 41 moves not to insist. Anatolyi was satisfied with the point and because of that, his championship.
In Groningen Berke told me: “I won’t be champion this year, because Anatolyi participates. He’ll be too old next year, so then it’s my turn.”
The figure of Anatolyi draws repect!

Double sacrifice

Konstantin Nord gives Wouter Wolff here two pieces and wins them back, with a great position left.
19. 22-28 20. 33×22 19-24 21. 42-38 24×44 22. 40×49 14-19! 23. 25×14 09×20. Black doesn’t feel like he is in a hurry to win back the second piece.

A nice combination! The nicest one?

Paula Gutmane – Karolina Babiak 0-2

Karolina won by 15. … 17-22!

Do you see the rest of the combination?

It is de most beautiful combination I saw here.
Have you seen an even nicer one?

Tunaara Fedorova and Martijn van IJzendoorn champions!

Leader Tunaara Fedorova beat Triinu Jalg who was third with 3 points behind. Ulka Babanli (Azerbaidzjan) trailed 2 point, maar verloor van Elizaveta Borodacheva (Rusland). but lost to Elizaveta Borodacheva (Russia). Tunaara goes out of sight of her followers, with 4 point ahead, into the last round.

As said before, Martijn van IJzendoorn (NL) enlarged his lead by 2 points. Uladzislau Valjuk could still surpass Martijn if he would win from a strong opponent and Martijn would lose from a less strong opponent. That’s the kind of calculus you get with a Swiss tournament. If there were to be a shared place, then the average rating of the opponent would give the result. After the pairing of the final round, the average opponent ratings already could be calculated! It was still tense, because Uladzislau got a stronger opponent than Martijn. The calculations finally revealed the average opponent rating of Martijn at 2093 and of Uladzislau at 2083. Therefore Martijn definitely is champion!

Martijn’s lead declines and rises

With the juniors Martijn van IJzendoorn after 7 rounds still is 1 point ahead of Uladzislau Valjuk (Belarus). In the third round Martijn won from Uladzislau. Yesterday Martijn had to allow a draw against Sukhbat Tsogtbaatar (Mongolia), whom is now third by two points. Today we have Valjuk against Tsogtbaatar and Van IJzendoorn against Dmitrijs Brovkins, also on two points.

Meanwhile, Valjuk – Tsogtbaatar drew and Van IJzendoorn will win. A comfortable lead of two points with the entrance to the final round.

Yulia Yurkova (Russia) and Leticija Dubickaite (Lithuania) both profited of the draw between Angelina Popova (Russia) and Vera Khvashchynskaya (Belarus). Yurkova is ahead of Khvashchynskaya and Dubickaite by one point after seven rounds. Today we have Yurkova facing off against Dubickaite.

Draw, both don’t persist in the big endgame. Kvashchynskaya beats Odgerel Molomjamts (Mongolia) and gets into a shared place with Yurkova.
